What is the Potty Training Academy?
Potty Training Academy is a simple, structured potty-training programme designed to help parents and carers support their child as they learn to use the potty or toilet confidently.
Created by potty-training expert Amanda Jenner, the programme provides clear, practical guidance to help families recognise when their child is ready to start potty training and guide them step-by-step through the learning process.
At the heart of the programme is the belief that consistency is key. When parents, carers and childcare settings follow the same approach, children feel more secure and are more likely to succeed in learning this important new skill.
Potty training can also help families save money each month by reducing the need for nappies, while being kinder to the environment by cutting down on disposable nappy waste.
The academy offers helpful tools, fun learning activities and stories to make potty training more enjoyable and engaging for toddlers. Designed to support both first-time parents and those who need a little extra help, Potty Training Academy helps build confidence while encouraging children to develop independence at their own pace.
How do I know when my child is ready?
Every child is different, they learn to walk, talk and eat at very different times and the same goes for the milestone that is potty training!
There are however key signs to look out for to show you exactly when your child is ready to start, once you are aware of these, potty training can be a lot easier to follow for both parent and child.
- Longer periods of dry nappies which indicates their bladder has developed stronger muscles-You may be finding your child is not needing as many nappy changes throughout the day or they may even be completely dry overnight. Now their muscles are developing to be much stronger, this will enable your child to store wee for longer periods of time
- When your toddler stops in their tracks when doing a wee or a poo-Toddlers will start to recognise they have done a wee or a poo, you may even find them hiding behind the sofa or informing you they are doing a wee. This may be the perfect timing to get those nappies off and get those big girl or boy pants on and get going!
- When your little one can understand and follow instructions …most of the time- Toddlers are incredible, it seems like every single day they are picking up new little phrases and entering into more complex conversations with you so you will soon know when this time has come. We all know however the ability to understand and follow instructions and actually putting them into practice isn’t always the plan they have in their own little mind, so just be patient with this one!!
At nursery we have a toilet training bag that you can borrow and look through with your child. This bag has resources to use to find out if your child is ready for toilet training and what steps to take next.
